The Children’s Room is open all of the hours the library is open.  In addition to books we have music CD’s, books on CD, DVDs and magazines appropriate for children from birth to 12 years old.

2017 Children’s Summer Reading Program


Registration is required to attend Special Events.  Space may be limited.             Call 967-9691.

Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30am:  Come sing songs, read stories and make a fun craft!  Ages 2-5 (siblings and friends are always welcome!) No Storytime on July 4th and July 11th.

June 21st 1-7:30pm:  Summer Reading Registration opens today!  Stop in to sign-up for your reading log and the special events that YMLA will be hosting over the summer.

June 26th 6:00pm:  Summer Reading Kick-off with Magician Scott Jameson!  Ages 3 & up.  Thank you to MassMutual for generously funding this program through the Volunteers In Action grant!

June 27th 10:30am:  Storytime with Toto the Tornado Cat Come meet Toto and his owner, Jonathan.  We will read the true story of how Toto was lost and then rescued in the 2011 tornado in Brimfield, MA.  Ages 2-5.

July 3rd 6:00pm:  Pajama Storytime  Come in your pajamas and snuggle up to hear some soothing bedtime stories.  After storytime, we will eat cookies and make a bedtime craft.  Teddy bears welcome.  Ages 2-5.

July 5th 6:00pm:  Mad Science Lego Workshop  Build Lego with a Mad Scientist.  Each child will also be given a kit to continue the learning at home.  Ages 5-10.  Thank you to MassMutual for generously funding this program through the Volunteers in Action grant!

July 11th 2:00pm:  Forest Park’s Zoo on the Go  Get a close up look at some of Forest Park’s live animals.  Kids will learn all about each animal and have an opportunity to touch them.  Ages 3 & up.  Thank you to the Friends of the Library for generously funding this program!

July 12th 6:00pm:  Lego Club  All designs will be displayed in the Children’s Room for one month, until next Lego Club.  Lego Club is held year-round every third Wednesday of the month at 6pm.  All Lego provided.  Ages 4 & up.

July 13th 11am & 2pm:  Tie Dye Workshop (Day 1)  Bring a washed, white t-shirt to the courtyard behind the library, and we will provide the dye and instructions to make your very own colorful creation.  Ages 5-12.

July 17th 3pm & 6pm:  Tie Dye Workshop (Day 2)  Due to it’s popularity, we’ve added a second Tie Dye day!  Thank you the Friends of the Library for generously funding this program!

July 19th 6:00pm:  Pumpernickel Puppets  Come see “Sir George and the Dragon” performed by puppets! There will be time after the show for questions about the puppets and how they’re made.  Ages 3 & up.  Thank you to Country Bank for generously funding this program!

July 24th 6:00pm:  Jungle Jim’s Minecraft Madness!  Jungle Jim is back with a show that is sure to excite all those Minecraft fans out there.  Ages 3 & up.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Ware Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. 

July 25th 10:30am:  Storytime with Therapy Dog Sophie  Read a story with Sophie and learn all about how she helps her community!  Ages 2-5.

July 26th 2:00pm:  Movie Matinee  Come watch a movie with us!  Popcorn and water will be provided.  All ages.

August 2nd 6:00pm: Summer Reading Finale  Balloon Artist Ed Popielarczyk, & Ice Cream Social with Janine’s Frostee!  Come for an evening of fun in the courtyard behind the library!  Thank you to Civia Tuteur for generously funding this event and to Janine’s Frostee for their generous donation of time and ice cream!

  • Storytime is held each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.  Join us for stories, songs and a fun craft!  Ages 2-5.  Siblings and friends are always   welcome!




    • Lego Club:  Held every third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm.  Children will each build their own Lego creation to be displayed in the Children’s Room for one month, until next Lego Club. To avoid mix -ups, please do not bring Lego from home; all you need to bring with you is your imagination! 



  • Crafty Saturday!  Every Saturday morning there will be a drop-in craft in the Children’s Room.  Come in and get creative!  The library is closed on Saturdays in the months of July and August.
